The 5.0 scale also adds more emphasis on the voting, unless that gets restructered later, since votes have the same value put are in play on a smaller scale here

Now I'm all for /5 rather than /10, but are we then changing votes to 0.05, as if it stays the same we'll have alot more matches determined by voting rather than rating. And I think we all know the sour feeling of losing by votes when your promo scores higher.

I think this give a lil bit better balance to the structure as a whole and give folks who are able to garner votes a better shot.

But then this becomes the simple factor of is this a popularity contest or a rated competition. I see where you are coming from, but to my original point, nothing hurts more than having a better promo and then losing by simply votes. If that happens what can you do extra then. So my simple point is if you are going to lower ratings by half, do the same to votes.

The ratings staff, in my eyes, is a fair and balanced group of people. Voters on the other hand, sometimes are not. Tag teams, stables... they all have a tendency to vote for one another. I would know, as I used to be in a stable.

OK, I'm kidding, but I had to do something to get someone's attention. Now, I assume that most of you take showers and what not so when someone flushes the toilet while you're in there, it can't be a good feeling. Now imagine if someone took like a five-gallon bucket of ice water mixed with snow and dumped it on you.

That is what Karma did to me a couple of days ago. I've got some down time now and I'm struggling with ideas to come up with that DO NOT involve touching her, as per Alex O'Rion's request. As I mull over possible avenues of retribution, I start to realize that I bend over backwards for Alexander Keith O'Rion.

He says I can't touch Karma. He says I can't go out after 2 A.M. He says I can't be left alone with Jessica. He says I shouldn't study wrestling all day. He says I can't watch porn on my computer.

OK, that last one I made up.

Anyway, I've about had it with his rules and shit. Only thing I've ever told him was to take his job seriously and try to cut back on drinking as much as he does. See, not too hard, right? Now, what to do to Karma...

Before I can have an epiphany, there's a knock at the door to my room. I answer, and it's Karma. A glistening, naked save for a bath towel wrapped around her body Karma.

"May I help you," I ask. It's starting to get difficult to ignore this but again, I persevere. She merely smiles and says, "I take it you're still uncomfortable around women? I'm wearing a towel for God's sake. You act like you've never seen a woman get out of a shower."

She has no idea how wrong she is. I've seen her get out of a shower plenty of times. I've seen bits and pieces of what she's hidden from my perverted view. The problem is, I can't have it and I have this thing where I tend to want what I can't have then cease to care as much upon obtaining it or when the opportunity of getting it presents itself. See the C-4 Championship, Kylie, and so on.

Notice I left the Tag titles out of it. They're starting to really grow on me. As if Alex, Karma and to an extent Jessica.

"You know how Alex wigs out anytime we're in each other's presence. Are you trying to start shit?"

"Chris, come on now. You know I know Uncle Alex isn't that fond of us being friends. I came in here because I needed a favor."

"OK, what is it?"

"Can I borrow some clothes," she asks while I glare at her. Dammit woman you have your own clothes. What's wrong with them? Maybe I should have said that out loud.

"You have your own clothes," I say with annoyance. Karma pouts slightly as I remain firm. Seriously, it's starting to bug me that she wears my clothes over her own.

"There's a certain reason why I wear your clothes."

"You mean besides to annoy me?"

"Yeah, actually," She says. "As Uncle Alex has probably disclosed to you already, things between me and my dad aren't exactly the best. His drinking has gotten worse and I feel like I'm losing him. Being at home sucks but I can't help but to want to be there to help him through this. He won't let me though, we always end up fighting."

Ah yes, Dante. He hasn't really been doing so well. Everything he trusted and POSSIBLY cared about just shat right back on him. Alex fell by the wayside, Seth fucked up, Kross, Drew, Myself, you name it. He probably feels abandoned, definitely feels broken. I would sympathize with him but he has a daughter and sometimes you just need to suck it up for the greater good, especially when your daughter has been through the shit Karma has.

"I just miss home, alright? You're from the Bay Area, just like me. Just reminds me of home," she confesses.

"You just said that things sucked at home, Karma."

"There's a difference, idiot. That's just a residence, place I sleep, where I get mail. I miss HOME."

Don't let this sob story get you, I think to myself. You're better than that Chris. Well, not better but you're too serious to understand this...Next thing I know I sit on my bed and pat the area beside me. Karma sits down as I put my arm around her and say, "Look. I don't have the best relationship with my father either. But unlike him, I truly believe that if it came down to it, Dante would move heaven and earth for you. He's risked his life to avenge you before, I have no doubt that things may seem bad now, but when the chips are down, he'll be there."

"Are you just saying that to make me feel better? Sympathy isn't a strong point of yours."

"Is it working?"

"Kinda."

"Then no. I'm saying it because I truly believe it," I say. OK, part of that is a lie but I hate to see women cry. It's a mood killer and just really a somber sight. Anyway, I hug Karma tight, because well frankly she needs one every now and then as while I may be a cold, calculating bastard, I care about people that matter to Alex.

Then a smile creeps across her face.

I'm good at this after all.

I get up and toss her a T-shirt of mine. I turn away so she may put it on in privacy, if you will. Afterwards, I turn and go to open the door for her but she stops me. "Can I ask you something?"

"What?"

"Uncle Alex would really freak if I brought this up to him but you seem like the kind of person that wouldn't have that kind of reaction so, tell me about sex," she says oddly sneakily. Oh fuck. She can't be serious, right? I mean, she's fucking 17, she should know by now...then again, Dante's her father. She was probably sheltered all her life following what Syanide, well Daniel, did to her when she was little. I really do not want to have this conversation.

Alex would REALLY flip out to the point where he'd probably be pissed enough to beat me in a fight. On top of that, Karma and sex is a touchy subject to me anyway. Hell, it's not much of a secret that I would've already nailed her if she was of age but still.

"Well, Chris? You're manning up or what?"

I think it over. A part of me thinks that Alex is standing right by the door, listening to my every word. So I decide to call her and his bluff.

"I could show you better than I could tell you as I'm a rather demonstrative teacher, but that's not the best course of action so..." I gruffly state before she cuts me off with an opening.

"Uncle Alex went with Jessica to the mall or something, they'll be gone a while."

This precocious teen cannot be serious. "I'd rather tell you," I say. Karma walks up to me trying to be all seductive. I don't think she has much of an idea what's she's doing but when a young woman built like Karma is one you kind of have your eye on, and she's fresh out the shower wearing nothing but a t-shirt that BARELY covers what needs to be covered while she walks up to you, there's not much she has to do now is there?

"Karma, are you sure you're ready for this kind of talk?"

"You said we weren't going to talk, which is a shame since you do a lot of lectures at work. But if you think this is better then we'll go with that." Karma stretches and places her arms around my neck and stares into my eyes. Her chest is on my chest, our lips are about 2 inches apart and her back is facing my dresser, which I could easily lift her up and place her onto.

OK, here we go. Golf. Alex O'Rion. Kylie. Jaime during labor. Big Daddy V's moobs. Acting on impulse to find out it was a test by Alex O'Rion.

"Karma, I'll tell you everything you want to know, emphasis on TELL but you need to put a bottom on, k?"

"K." She says, then she flashes me and shows that she has on some pajama shorts which I couldn't see under the shirt I gave her. She then winks and leaves and Alex O'Rion smirks before giving his 'niece' a peck on the cheek and whispering 'well done' as he walks into my room. He looks me up and down and chuckles before saying "You almost slipped, bye. Nice to see you have some self-control."

"Fuck you."

"Oh someone will be. Can't say the same for you, can we asshat?" Alex says before laughing heartily. He pats me on the shoulder and I angrily buck him off. "Why the hell would you do that," I demand. Before Alex can answer, I feel a sharp pain right in the middle of my stomach. I double over and fall onto my bed as Alex uses the handle of his bat to reveal the rest of it.

"Stop looking at Karma when she comes out the shower, K? Otherwise, me and my friend here will see just exactly how much knowledge is inside your cranium after I bash your brains out. Understand?"

"..ack...Yeah, fine. My bad," I manage to force out. Jesus fuck it's hard to prepare for a bat shot to the gut. Alex scowls and grunts, "No shit, Sherlock. Now, if you'll excuse me, my darling awaits. It's your turn to do the grocery shopping too, so don't forget the beer, sir." Alex then leaves, job of bat-happy uncle done for now. After Alex leaves, Karma dips her head back in and says to me, "So are we still on for that talk?"

"What do you think," I say sarcastically. She merely smiles and says, "See you later. Thanks for the reassurance, seriously." I nod painfully as I manage to sit up and close my door.

I hate that mother fucker Alex sometimes. I hate Karma for this happening to me too. And now I realize one way to get her back, Alex's rules be damned.

I'm going to hate fuck her.

And I disagree with this assessment. That's basically saying the raters opinions are more important than the voters. And as someone who has won almost every one of his matches with a lower promo score and by votes I find that upsetting. Maybe my promo doesn't appeal to the select few raters, but it appeals to the mass amount of people so I win the match. Now your telling me that's the wrong way to do it?

Interesting debate. In theory I 100% agree with you BUT I know (and you know) that people vote without having read promos as often as not. For evidence of that I would quote the time I had four votes against me and the other guys was a no show......and two of those votes were from people classified as "Main Eventers".

At least we know the raters have actually read the promo.

It doesn't solve the debate because votes are definitely important but finding the correct balance is the important thing

I think voting should be either reduced in weight or totally eliminated now that I have thought on it....Granted if your stable and peeps are strong you swing a match or two but it should be the writing that gets you the win not who you know and the like. It contradicts what I said earlier but makes the most sense.

Basically what you just said is that a few should decide who wins and screw the thoughts of the many. Yes people blind vote, yes people vote for friends, but it's their right. Honestly, it might just be as I said I win matches on votes more than the strength of my promo score, and personally I've always believed that while the raters may not have liked my promo, it reached the majority of the people who read it thus the votes.

I mean votes should be about the writing as well, but screw it, this is apparently mob rule, I'm looting me a TV while the looting is good.

OOC: My understanding was always that the ratings were purely on the promo, and the voters were allowed to vote however we wanted. I honestly don't always vote on the better promo. I vote on who I want to win the match, either because of angles, in show happenings, or by effort. Guess my vote is meaningless because I've voted for obviously worse promos before.

BTW, if the promo scale is cut in half, and you cut the votes in half... nothing changed. There's no point to changing it at all. They made it on a 5 point scale so votes would weigh slightly higher. Why don't we see how it works before condemning it.

This is why I said it is an interesting debate, there is no clear cut answer to votes vs rating... I think we all know that in the end what we have is the way to go..... ie a mix of the two. What we need to work out is the balance.

As for your statement that you voted for promos because of angles / effort / etc I think no one would argue with that as long as your vote is not "eenie meenie mynie moe" or just "I like him better so he gets my vote". Voting based on storyline and what makes sense is as valid as anything else.

Your next comment I disagree with however. The scores were cut to an "out of 5" so that there would hopefully be a wider and more diverse set of ratings scores as opposed to everybody getting scores within a 1.5 range (7.5 - 9) in a scale of ten. Not to make the votes more significant.

That said if the range does widen out up to say a range of 2 (eg 2.7 - 4.7 being common scores) then the 0.1 for votes is already reduced in impact as ther is likely to be more gap between promo scores for votes to have to overcome.

Based on that I am all for Butters suggestion of leaving it as is for now and if it starts to become commonplace for votes to decide a match we can address it then.

I think it's an interesting debate. The 10.0 scale was a good scale in theory for balance between votes and promo scores, because in theory, the promo scores had a much wider range. That didn't end up happening, but a 5.0 promo score scale to a 0.05 vote doesn't work as well, because it undervalues the input of the voting public.

I was never a fan of how the 10.0 scale was handled, but I still think that the theory behind it and the balance it should create is a fairly strong one. In a fed like ours, we can never say no to the public input on the results. No matter how you go about it, the votes are there as a way for people to help determine the result. How you go about it (legally), through trash talking, promo, stables, whatever, is a varied thing, but if we start leaving the results to a small percentage of people, problems arise.

The voting and promo system is the best system we have, but it's still flawed. No matter how we determine results, there are always going to be flaws. The balance of power helps reduce flaws. I think what I'm trying to say is voting is an integral part of our fed, and if we lose it, we lose one of our most endearing and noble qualities. Democracy.

If you start to say how someone can and can't vote, then there's no point to voting.

What if I want to randomly choose? What if I want to vote for Slegna just because I like him? I don't have that right? Why not? It's a game, why can't I place my votes however I want?

That being said, votes should count for more than the promo score. If you're telling me that you'd rather listen to 5 people's opinions over the opinions of the masses (20-30 on a good week) then you're basically agreeing this should be a socialistic society where 5 people make all the rules pending on how they feel.

Upon which I say bullshit, different rater look for different things but on a traditional scale length, originality, spelling/grammar, match relevance, and content were what I'd look for. Some people don't like certain styles, some people don't like certain storylines, some people don't like this or don't like that and that is perfectly fine but to tell people that you're going to leave the full amount of power into the hands of a select few is outlandish in every right.

Do people vote block? Yes.

Do people vote trade? Yes.

Do people vote for their friends? Yes.

But in the end this is the best system we have got and it won't get any better changing it. And if you want to get technical, having the votes count for more is more realistic.

What the belts?

Sure they're nice but at the end of the day their just belts. What connects me and Austin is the fact that we have plenty in common, act like juvenile idiots, when no one is looking in his case.
