| So how many of you are guitarists?
I figured we could start a nice discussion here.
What kind of guitar do you have?
If Trey doesn't sign up for FMW and post here, I'll go emo. |

| I'm trying to learn right now, actually. I'm teaching myself, but I'm finding it really hard, I'm still much more comfortable on the piano. Well, I can play it a little, I can play the intro to "Pull Me Under" and the main riff of "Today" by The Smashing Pumpkins. But that's about it. Here's the guitar I have: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Squier-Affinity-Series-Fat-Strat-Electric-Guitar-102545753-i1146519.gcA cheapy, but I wanted to start off with something not as expensive. I got it off Craigslist for about $100 and it came with a electronic tuner too, so I'm pretty happy. I'll try to get a picture of me with it tonight pretending to play it like a badass. On a somewhat related note, could I get a few suggestions for a somewhat decent amp that won't break the bank? | |

| A Wal Mart amp would do you just fine. The one by me has two different size amps, a small one for $50 or a larger one for $70. Despite being a WalMart brand (First Act), they're surprisingly good.
When I was in a band, I used my First Act amp for practices.
Shit, I use a wal mart electric guitar and that thing is better than most expensive guitars (the ones I've played at least.)
Some songs I can play:
Battery- Metallica Master of Puppets - Metallica Enter Sandman - Metallica Symphony of Destruction - Megadeth The God that Failed - Metallica One - Metallica A Toute Le Monde - Megadeth Dammit - Blink 182 Panic Attack - Dream Theater (iffy...) Medicate - AFI The Beast and the Harlot - Avenged Sevenfold Am I Evil? - Diamond Head Everlong - Foo Fighters
Some songs I'm learning: Pull Harder on the Strings of Your Martyr - TRIVIUM <3 A Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation - Trivium Kirisute Gomen - Trivium Departure - Trivium Sweet Child O' Mine - Guns N' Roses Through the Fire and Flames - Dragonforce (I got the intro and the part where you failed at until you smashed a window on GH3 down, now for the rest. Ugh.) |

| Wal Mart brand? Hmm, I'm intrigued, I was trying to find something to spend the money I got from my birthday on. I might be able to focus on songwriting a little more if I have two instruments I can play. | |

| Yeah, Wal Mart amps are a good choice for someone learning, or just writing.
Fly your happy ass out here and we'll jam. |

| Ha, got an amp today. Unfortunately, I found out that despite my ability to now play the guitar louder, I cannot, in fact, play it better.
I'll get myself a Keytar then we'll jam, Sean.

| Yeah, you saw this comming from me...
I have a Fender Jazzmaster.
I'm using a Digitech "GRUNGE" pedal for my distortion. It's fucking sick, and you get great feedback sounds from your amp.
I also play bass
I got a Fender P-Bass with Mahogany fretboard, and play on a Crate Amp for that.
Acoustic wise, I have several.
2 black Yamahas, a Martin somewhere, and a Seagul with clear pickguard.
I'm a guitar nerd :/ | |

I love, love, LOVE, Digitech products. A Digitech employee came to my school last week...god it was fun to screw around on the pedals. |

| It was indeed, sweet.
The guy also taught me to play a Jazz version of Master of Puppets.
Then I schooled HIM on something...
He can't play the intro of Master of Puppets (normal version) all downstrum.
I can. Kirk Hammet style. <3 |

| I can play fairly well unfortunately I came on hard times and had to sell my guitar (Ace Frehly Signature Model)... it had pearl inlays on the fret board and everything...I did get 400 for it though. I miss that sucker. I can play alot of Metallica and some Soundgarden stuff....I got really good at Nirvana with the slow pogressions in some of their songs. And I have tore thru the KISS song book. I had a cheap little amp I bought off a friend couldn't even tell ya the model and I still have a handful of distortion pedals. I was in a band in high school and a few years after. We styled ourselvrs to be like the grunge band Candlebox. That went well....not!! | |

| I currently have a epiphone flying V because I can't afford anything better.
It's in Barritone tuning (B standard, dropped 3 and a half steps).
I use a digitech Death Metal distortion pedal.
I'm working on making my own riffs at the moment, in the style of Cannibal Corpse.
Jetstream: Kurt Cobain is better than Kirk Hammet? ...There isn't much I can say other than you are VERY wrong. (if in all fairness Kirk Hammet isn't your style fair enough).
Sean: Master of Puppets main riff is supposed to be all downstrokes. Hard palm muted downstrokes is one of the most important parts of metal rhythm.

| I personally can't stand 'em but I have nothing against people who play them. I don't find guitar much fun without distortion, the only time I do is when I'm playing something like "down in a hole" or the sad part to "to live is to die". | |
