| Hey well since we basically peppered the OOC thread yesterday full of this talk, figured might as well start its own thread. We can use it for motivation, for tips, for goals, hell even to compete with one an other on how well (or not so well lol) we have been doing week in and week out. Some of us are severe procrastinators (like me) that require that little extra to get shit done. Others have a marathon to run in a few months, and might need that extra little something for motivation. Could even be like the biggest loser show they have. Anyways, I'm going to use this as motivation/hopefully friendly competition. I plan to get started tomorrow (today, I felt like sleeping in lol) and I'll post every week (Monday's more than likely) weight lost numbers (not necessarily current weights lol). Hopefully, others feel like this could be a fun thing to do as well and join me in said friendly competition. So even though today I felt like this... Tomorrow I'm going to be like this Anyways... good luck top all and hopefully some of you decide to join in. | |

| A friend of mine back home and I did P90X this past summer (all 90 days) and while it killed us, it was amazing. To those of you who haven't heard of it, try it. Google it, buy it/download it. Follow the exercise routine it lays out, and the day planner and you will feel devastated and awesome all at once.
Anyways it's got a fun feature called Ab Ripper X. Which equates to 349 reps of various core exercises in 16 minutes. Very fast and furious, but you feel very good when you finish. You usually do this every other day after the P90X workout. (so three times a week since there are 6 workout days and then X stretch on day 7)
Regardless, I have been incorporating Ab Ripper X into my workouts every other day again and it makes a great difference.
I think, if I remember correctly, Jaro was also doing P90X when I was.

| For some reason last nights session of the Ab Ripper was especially tiring. So much so that today at work I dread everytime I have to stand up cuz my core and legs just hurt so much. The good hurt, but hurt none th eless. What sucks is I co-led a marketing meeting this morning. Lots of walking back and forth...major ouch. And while I highly recommend the prodcut, I'd just download. The money is well spent on buying the bands (if no pull up bar) and dumbbells. Depending on the download it should have a pdf of the workout guide and all their suggestions. Make sure you have that as it explains when you should be doing the workouts, your scheduling. Your recovery drinks and all that what not. ALSO: This is my plan: The 46th Annual Calgary Marathon (though I'm only doing the half) On May 30, 2010. That is Benchmark 1. - http://www.calgarymarathon.com/Races/HalfMarathonSounds fun, run a half marathon two days after my birthday haha. | |

Sounds fun, run a half marathon two days after my birthday haha. Well that will surely burn off that excessive amounts of alcohol you would have drank at your B-day lol. I only glanced at the site for a bit. What's the difference between the download versus the home deliver (which I saw was 5 business days)? I'm guessing it's cheaper?

| my workout has been throwing up buckets. Stupid girlfriend gave me the stupid flu at christmas time.
I don't think she understand how to give a present properly.
And I'm at work.
But yes. Jan 1 is going to be a fabulous day.
Also:
If I had the money I totally would have paid for P90X. Tony is not only a scary man, but when I suck at the exercises I feel like I've let him down...and he's on the TV...it's terrible.

| Why waste the money on P90X?
Just get a gym membership.

| Differing logic. I love going to the gym but sometimes it's actually really hard to get to the gym. Where as with P90X or various other at home workouts it just required you to be at home and have a TV. I don't prefer one over the other, though I certainly enjoyed a lot of the aspects of P90X. (Plyometrics especially) And it's not really "wasting" money. I mean you pay what, 45$ a month for a gym membership (or you do in Calgary). P90X is a 90 day workout for 100. So that's three months. 45 X 3 = 135 So for a 3 month program which you simply cycle after the three months you pay $100. Or a gym membership each month at $45. It can't be a waste when it saves you money. But I see your point, just poor wording | |

Just get a gym membership. I've had memberships at 3 different gyms in the last 7 years now. I actually do have a membership currently. I've had it for exactly one year to this very day (Dec 22nd) I pay $30 every 2 weeks, so basically $60/month. Out of the 3 places I've been to, this is probably the place where I've spent the most per month on memberships. However it is also the best place I've been by miles as well. Plus the building itself and equipment is barely over a year old now. But like Clarke just said, the gym isn't exactly near here, and I don't always feel like warming up my car for 20 minutes on a bunch of days, so an alternative to going to the gym would be nice.

| This might not be the place to put this but I have a question for everyone involved.
Have you ever set out to lose weight, started jogging etc etc and then found it had no effect until several months later.
I've spent the last few months working my ass off to get back into shape after my knee injury and for the first month nadda. Then in the last four weeks I've lost 20 pounds.
Just doesn't seem normal to me.

| Hmm...I guess I forgot two key factors. 1) Canada is cold. 2) Being a college student gets me "free" access to a stocked gym My main thing with stuff like P90X is that the so-called "advice" doesn't seem worth it. Couldn't you find a comparable workout online, for free, and just do that? That's what you're paying for, right....the "routine"? | |

| Well, the P90X can be sorta free lol.
Actually thinking about linking my PC to my TV monitor as they are close by to each other and just play the videos like that. Just going to require some moving around in my living room.
As for Ares, this is the perfect place to post any work out info or questions. I remember something like that happen to me a few years ago. I don't know the exact reason, one of these other guys probably can do it better.
However, I wonder if during that first month of workout if you DID lose fat weight, but gained muscle mass almost equivalent to what you lost. And as you gained muscle mass, your body suddenly began requiring more and more energy to sustain itself as you gained more muscle mass, to the point, where it broke the equilibrium and fat began to burn faster than muscle growth. Plus with you now working for awhile now, you've been unknowingly able to workout harder thus burning more calories.
That's my uneducated thinking. I could be way off the mark though.
I'm also bored, nothing on TV and Biggest Loser happens to be on TV right now... sorta of motivator if I've ever seen one.

| Well I've found lately that as much as I run, swim, walk, exercise in general I don’t lose weight, whether it’s the same as Ares and its about to fall off or like I’ve started to notice it’s a build up of muscle.
But I always found that swimming really helps and you feel so relaxed afterwards. I try to do 50+ laps a day, last few times I’ve done about 70 laps of the pool (And it ain’t a kiddy pool). But I do hope that it starts to come off. Trying to get rid of some of this gut for the Summer Camp coming up in January. But with broad shoulders I think I’m likely to be a tank or a blob after all of this.
But my hardest point is staying motivated, other than the pool and the Wii, I struggle to motivate myself… Also wish my family had a weights set.

| So... I watched the whole chest and back disk 1 workout today.
I felt like I worked out myself just watching it lol. I also checked out pieces of the other one's as well. The Abs Ripper is insane lol.
Since I have the mmmmhhh... "non-store edition" how often are you suppose to do this? And how many in one day? Or do you just go one disk per day thing?
After checking it out, I'm serious considering buying the real edition of this. Though, it would also require me to buy a chin up bar and some weights (which I always wanted some at home anyways) Do you guys do this stuff at home?

| I do it at home. I don't use a chin up bar, I do the band variations and I have dumbbells.
There is a schedule to follow that is outlined in the guide. It says what to do on what day and what you weeks are like. Because you do change up your schedule week to week.

I jumped on the scales in late April and saw a number that was really bad.... 119kg. I vowed that day a) I would not get over 120kg and b) I wanted to be under a hundred by xmas.
Yesterday morning (23rd) I jumped on the scales and..... 99.6 kg
FUCK YEH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You crazy man! Wouldn't that be Winter Camp? (Don't mind my bad North/South Hemi joke, had to do it) I join a gym on the 1st of September and on the 7th I weighed in at 242, on the seventh of November I weighed 230. Very proud blah blah blah... Haven't worked out since the 17th of November and I feel terrible, I'm miles away from my gym now as I'm home for Christmas and because of my aforementioned family tragedy I have no motivation at all. My weight loss/fitness regime is a corner stone of my recovery from severe depression and I'm afraid of slipping into old habits again while coping with recent grief. I know that I need; personally, to be a better version of myself in the future to get what I want out of life. January 1st, I have to reset and start again. Before then I'm going to try and start easing back into my routine and good habits, I built up over the good weeks.

| Just do P90X. Suck it up princess. I've done it once and dropped from 200 to 175. I just started it again trying to gain some weight back as muscle. I promise you guys, if you can stick with it, it works.
Buy some protein supplements if you have to. I didn't really diet that much and still got results. And you feel a million times better about yourself.
With the summer coming up, gotta get that beach body and bring in the honeys.

| Update time: I slacked off over xmas and had some beers and chocolate and basically all things bad. Weighed in at 102 on Jan 3 which I felt ashamed to post in here. The good news is I have got my A into G since being back home from xmas holidays and now down to 97 kg. @ kg better than before xmas. Also mean I am just 5 kg from my next goal of 92 kg which is the weight I was when I left school 12 years ago. At this rate I will achieve my aim of running the city to surf fun run in Perth this year | |
